Sonali Bank confirmed their semi-final berth in the Club Cup Hockey tournament with a 4-1 win over the Dhaka Wanderers at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Their big win also clinched a spot in the last four for title favourites Abahani Limited, who are due to face Sonali Bank in the group-deciding match today.Enamul Bari Turjo scored a brace, while Masum and Manik struck one goal apiece for Sonali Bank. Taher Ali scored a consolation goal for the Wanderers, who are already out from the tournament with two consecutive defeats.
In the other match of the day, Azad Sporting Club kept their hopes of qualifying for the last four alive with a 1-1 draw against Ajax Sporting Club. That result also sent Usha KC through to the semi-finals from Group B.
Rajib Das scored for Azad SC in the 24th minute before Nurunnabi restored parity in the 51st minute for Ajax.
