Pioneering band Souls, in association with Grameenphone Limited, launched its first digital album “Jam” on August 17 at Hotel Ruposhi Bangla in Dhaka. The album is available exclusively to subscribers of Grameenphone. The new album features lyrics written by and performance of the winners of a talent hunt, “Souls Featuring You”.
Only Grameenphone subscribers will be able to enjoy the new songs over a period of two months as part of value-added services like welcome tune, full track download, music radio etc. The songs will be available from today (August 19).
Members of Souls and Grameenphone officials were present at the album launch.
Earlier, Grameenphone in collaboration with Souls launched the music contest “Souls Featuring You” on July 13 to inspire budding lyricists and instrumentalists to write a song, and play for the album.
The winning lyricist is Mahfuz Rahman and the featured instrumentalist is Jahid Anwar (a visually impaired violinist).
Frontman of Souls, Partho Barua, seemed elated and hoped that the initiative will help reduce audio piracy in the country. “I hope our fans like this new album. I’m very happy that we could feature a young lyricist and an instrumentalist,” said Barua, lead vocalist and guitarist of the band.
Kazi Monirul Kabir, chief communications officer of Grameenphone, handed crests to the winners of the talent hunt. Sajid Rizwan Matin, head of market communications of Grameenphone, was also present at the event.
The Grameenphone officials said that their organisation would continue contributing to the Bangladeshi music industry.
