Sourav, the prime accused of Mridhat Sarima Rahman murder case, confessed to the killing before a Chittagong court yesterday.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Azizul Hoque recorded the 15-page confessional statement of Sourav under section 164 in the afternoon.
Sourav in his confession reiterated the statements he gave before the police and media after his arrest in the early hours of Saturday.
“I brought a one-foot-long knife from my home…. I flicked out the knife from my bag in a bid to scare her by a suicide prank. I thought she would be convinced to continue the relationship after showing the knife,” a source at the court said quoting Sourav’s statement.
“I stabbed her with the knife when she tried to run away after seeing the knife. After that, Safat and I took her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and I left the scene. Later, I started for Dhaka,” the statement said.
On Thursday evening, Sourav met Sarima on the roof of Safat’s house to return the letters and gifts she gave Sourav earlier and give a final shot to save their broken relationship, Sourav said.
Sarima’s father Mizanur Rahman filed a murder case against Sourav on that night and police arrested Sourav from a bus at Bhatiari under Sitakunda upazila in the district around 1:30am on Saturday.
