High winds at a festival in Spain caused portions of a stage to collapse, leaving one person dead and at least 40 others wounded.
Video of the festival in Cullera, south of Valencia, showed some attendees scurrying away in fear while others could be seen carrying on with their revelry.
The well-known electronic music festival has since been postponed.
According to local emergency services, three of those hurt in the early hours of Saturday had major trauma.
Witnesses described that a sudden sandstorm struck the festival site.
In the country’s eastern coastal region at the time, winds gusting over 80km/h (50mph) were reported by Spain’s meteorological agency.
“We are in a state of shock,” one of the attendees told Spanish media. “It could have been me, it could have been anyone,”
The festival’s organizers sent a message to Facebook expressing that they were “devastated and saddened” at what happened this morning”.
They said “unexpected and violent strong winds” damaged the venue’s infrastructure at around 4:00 local time (02:00 GMT), and the decision to evacuate the area was made right afterwards.
