Ekushey Boi Mela
Spirit of love all around
An air of love was wafting through the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela yesterday, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day as couples were seen walking hand in hand in the fair precincts.
The spring torrents brought the young souls and at the fair they seemed to have taken wings.
Many were seen buying books and flowers for their sweethearts, which added a new dimension to the fair and turned it into a place meant for celebration.
Though it was not a holiday, stalls witnessed a huge sale, especially of volumes of love stories and poems.
Crowds were also seen around the food vendors outside the fair, as the couples enjoyed some delectable, local munchies.
Tania Sultana of Rokeya Hall of Dhaka University accompanied by her better half said, “We were hanging out on the campus since morning to celebrate the Valentine’s Day,” adding, “ Now, we are in the book fair to buy books for each other”.
A total of 1,377 books hit the fair in first two weeks since its commencement. Like previous years, poems topped the list with 277 closely contested by novels, in which category 273 new titles arrived.
Meanwhile, the Bangla Academy authorities will dedicate four hours exclusively for children, starting from 11:00am today.
