Feni Soccer Club came from two goals down to hold title contenders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 2-2 in a thrilling Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday. Haitian Wedson Anselme struck twice inside the first 30 minutes to put Jamal ahead and Feni responded almost immediately, bringing the scoreline level through the strikes from Chukta Charles and Kabba Jobe within the next five minutes.
Jamal won the corresponding fixture in the first leg 4-2.
Despite their fourth draw in 12 matches, Jamal maintained their top position in the table with 28 points, six ahead of second-placed Abahani, who have 22 points with a match in hand.
Feni Soccer moved up to eighth position from the bottom after raising their tally to eight points.
Jamal took a deserving lead in the 14th minute with a stunning drive from Wedson, who fired home from the edge of the box after Sony Norde fed him with a square pass.
Wedson received a through pass from Shahedul Alam and raced past two defenders before placing the ball home in 30th minute to double the advantage.
Feni made a stunning comeback just after two minutes through an own goal of Didarul Haque, who saw his clearance inside the box roll into own net after a deflection off Nigerian hitman Chuka.
Gambian Kabba Jobe headed a Ramzan Ali free-kick home to level the margin on 35 minutes.
‘It is tough to come back in the game when you concede two goals within five minutes after taking a two-goal lead,’ lamented Jamal coach Josef Afusi after the match. ‘I congratulate Feni Soccer for their efforts and they deserved one point.’
