Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team defeated their South African counterparts by one wicket in the seventh youth one-day international to take the series by 6-1 in Chittagong on Thursday. Set a modest target after bowlers had restricted South Africa Under-19 to 232 runs the junior Tigers won the cliffhanger by one wicket with two balls to spare. Hosts needed 10 runs in the final over with the last pair on the crease. Mohammad Saifuddin could not get any run on the first ball but struck two boundaries of the next two balls of Conor McKerr before a wide ball tied the score.
Saifuddin thumped another boundary in the next ball to seal the match as the home side reached 236-9.
Saifuddin was unbeaten on 34 after Mehedi Hasan Miraz and skipper Nazmul Hossain scored 61 and 55 respectively to set up the chase.
Nazmul and Miraz added 99 runs in the fourth wicket partnership after they joined together at 77-3.
Earlier in the day, the visitors won the toss and decided to bat first. The reigning World Cup champions rode on Galiem’s 53 run and Dean Foxcroft 49.
Man of the match Saifuddin picked up two wickets while Nahid Hasan, Kazi Anik, Sanjit Saha and Nazmul Hossain grabbed one wicket each for the hosts.
