Defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club came from behind to beat Team BJMC 2-1 sealing their fifth consecutive win in the Bangladesh Premier league at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. BJMC took the lead with their captain Samson Iliasu but Jamal’s two in-form foreign forwards, Haitian Wedson Anselme and Nigerian Emeka Darlington, turned the table by scoring one goal apiece for the champions.
The goals increased the tally of Wedson and Emeka to five, taking them one goal ahead of Muktijoddha’s Enamul Haque, with whom they were sharing honour of joint top-scorer so far.
Jamal are now on the top of the points table with 15 points after five games while BJMC remained on eighth with a single point having played the same number of matches.
Wedson wasted a great chance to give his side an early third-minute lead but the Haitian forward failed to find the target after a cross from Linkon.
Nigerian midfielder Samson Iliasu stunned the champions by putting BJMC ahead with a powerful left-footed drive from outside the box in the 23rd minute.
Jamal, however, took only 10 minutes to find the equaliser when Wedson dribbled a defender before striking the ball home from top right corner of the box.
BJMC forward Mehedi Hassan Tapu wasted a good chance to retain the lead in the 54th minute when his close-range shot was blocked by the keeper Hemel after a cutback of Jibon.
In the 71st minute, Jibon wasted another opportunity as the young forward chipped the ball over the head of the opposition keeper Hemel from a one-to-one position.
Emeka sealed the victory just two minutes later when the Nigerian striker headed home from a free-kick of Mamunul Islam.
