Bangladesh sprinters Ashik Kumar Halder and Irin Akter moved into the semi-final of the 100 metre event in the boys and girls category at the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China on Monday.
Ashik clocked 11.54 seconds and finished third in his heat and ended in 13th position among 28 sprinters overall. Irin Akter also progressed to the semi-final after registering 12.76 seconds in her heat as she finished fifth but ended in 14th position among 27 participants overall.
Meanwhile, shooter Risalatul Islam failed to move into the top eight as he recorded 611 points in the 10 metre air rifle event to finish in 12th position among 37 participants while in the same event, Hasanul Banna ended in 21st position with a score of 605 points.
In the 3-on-3 basketball event, Bangladesh had a mixed day as they won the day’s first match against Iraq before going down against Korea in the day’s second game.
Bangladesh defeated Iraq 18-13 points while they lost 21-16 to Korea.
Earlier, Bangladesh were all but ruled out from the group stage after losing to Macau and Iran.
In the individual golf event, Afnan Mahmud claimed 23rd position among 27 golfers after the end of the second round while in the women’s category, golfer Liza Akter was languishing in last position among 17 participants.
