Families of the victims of BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in Chittagong said that they were happy about the verdict International Crimes Tribunal 1 delivered on Tuesday sentencing him to death. They, however, demanded an expeditious execution of the verdict. He was sentenced to death for genocide and killings during the independence war in 1971.‘This is a long awaited and expected verdict,’ said Sheikh Md Jahangir, son of Chittagong Awami League founder Sheikh Mozaffar Ahmed who along with his brother Sheikh Alamgir were abducted by Salauddin and his men on April 17, 1971.

‘Like others, we have got an expected verdict. I will be satisfied after the execution of the verdict,’ Prafulla Chandra Singha, son of martyred Natun Chandra Singha, founder of Kundeshwari Aushadhalaya, told reporters.
Salauddin was found guilty of the charge of killing Natun Chandra Singha at Kundeshwari Aushadhalaya in Chittagong on April 13, 1971.
Nirmal Chandra Sharma who lost five members of his family to the genocide at Madhya Gahira of Raujan in Chittagong on April 13, 1971 said that he was happy about the verdict.
‘I will be the happiest if the verdict is executed after completing all the judicial process,’ Nirmal said.
He recalled that the Pakistani army and Salauddin had killed his mother Pancha Bala Sharma, nephew Dulal Sharma, younger brother Sunil Sharma and uncle Jyotilal Sharma.
He said that his uncle Makhon Lal Sharma who at the time sustained injuries in the head died a few days later.
Salauddin was found guilty of the charge of genocide at Madhya Gahira.
