SSC pass rate increases this year

Combined pass rate 82.31
The pass rate of the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations has this year increased than the figure of the previous year.
According to the results published on Thursday, 2.91 per cent more students have passed the exams this year,
marking an increase by 2.33 percentage points.
The pass rate of the SSC and equivalent examinations this year is 82.31 and it was 79.98 in 2010.
The number of GPA 5 achievers, however, decreased this year. This year, 76,749 examinees scored GPA 5 while the figure was 82,961 in 2010.
The education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, officially announced the result at a press briefing at the secretariat about 1:30pm.
The chairmen of the education boards and education ministry officials attended.
Earlier in the morning, Nahid handed over the result to the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.
The examinations began on February 1 and ended on March 10.
Boys did better this year than the girls in terms of pass rate and the number of GPA 5 achievers.
The pass rate of boys is 83.76 and of girls 80.76 while 45,860 boys scored GPA 5 and the figure for girl students is 30,889.
The success rate of science students is 90.76 while the rate in business studies is 74.19 and in humanities 86.37.
Madrassah students did better in terms of pass rate than other students. The pass rate is 83.23 under the Madrassah Education Board, 82.16 under the eight general education boards and 81.37 in the Technical Education Board.
This year 13,07,155 students from 26,297 educational institutions took the examination in 2,181 examination centres and 10,75,886 of them came out successful.
The highest number of GPA 5 achievers is in the Dhaka education board and the lowest is in the Technical Education Board.
The number of GPA 5 achievers is 24,290 in the Dhaka board, 9,937 in Rajshahi, 5,981 in Comilla, 7,373 in Jessore, 4,819 in Chittagong, 2,755 in Barisal, 2,148 in Sylhet, 5,485 in Dinajpur, 12,756 in the Madrassah Education Board and 1,205 in the Technical Education Board.
Two hundred and forty-six students took the examinations in eight overseas centres. Two hundred and forty-three of them came out successful. The pass rate is 98.78 for students taking the exams in overseas centre. Fifty-nine of them scored GPA 5.
Among the eight general education boards, the highest pass rate, 85.85, is in the Comilla board and the lowest, 78.27, in the Chittagong board.
The pass rate is 84.63 in Dhaka, 80.32 in Rajshahi, 84.04 in Jessore, 78.30 in Barisal, 81.23 in Sylhet and 77.48 in Dinajpur.
This year, the examinees faced questions of creative type in the Bangla first paper, religious studies, science, social science, chemistry, geography and in introduction to business subjects.
Explaining the reason of the increase in the pass percentage, Nahid said that positive impact on the results was due to the creative type questions in  the examination.
No students passed in 28 educational institutions and all the examinees passed in 2,017 educational institutions.
In the Dhaka board, the top three educational institutions are Rajuk Uttara Model School and
College, Viqarunnisa Noon School and Ideal School and College; in the Rajshahi board, Pabna Cadet College, Jaipurhat Girls’ Cadet College and Bogra Government Girls’ High School; in the Comilla board, Comilla Zilla School, Feni Girls’ Cadet College and Comilla Cadet College; in the Jessore board, Jhenaidah Cadet College, Police Line Secondary School, Jessore and Sheikh Akizuddin High School; in the Chittagong board, Faujdarhat Cadet College, Collegiate School and Ispahani School and College; in the Barisal board, Barisal Cadet College, Barisal Zilla School and Barisal Government Girls’ High School; in the Sylhet board, Sylhet Cadet College, Blue Bird High School and Sylhet Government Pilot School; in the Dinajpur board, Rangpur Cadet College, Cantonment Public School and College and Amena-Baki Residentail Model School; in the Madrasssah board, Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrassah, Pabna Islamia Madrassah, and Mokra DSN Fazil Madrassah; and in the Technical Education Board, UCEP Dhaka Technical School, AK Khan UCEP Technical School and Society of Social Reform High School.
Students collected their result from their educational institutions. The results were also available on the education ministry’s web site (www.educationboardresults.gov.bd).  The results could also be obtained by text messages.
