Stalker kills mother
Stalkers in killed a mother at Madhukhali in Faridpur and severely injured two brothers in Chandpur for their protest at harassment of girls on Tuesday.
In Faridpur, Champa Rani Biswas, 52, wife of Swapan Biswas, was killed in the evening when a stalker riding a motorcycle ran into her after she had protested at the harassment of her daughters.
Champa Rani is the latest victim after Natore college teacher Mizanur Rashid died on October 24 after being wounded on October 12 by stalkers for protesting at harassment of girls.
The New Age correspondent in Faridpur said Rony Saha, a resident of the upazila, ran his motorcycle into Champa Rani, a resident of Mahishapur, close to the upazila town.
The victim’s family said Rony hit Champa Rani in front of their house about 4:45pm on Tuesday after she had protested at harassment of her daughters.
Champa Rani died from her injuries in Faridpur Medical College Hospital about an hour inside the accident.
Workers and employees of the Faridpur Sugar Mills and students of the Faridpur Sugar Mill High School, in protest at the killing, blocked the Dhaka–Khulna Highway.
They had blocked the highway for about half an hour demanding arrest and punishment of the killer. They also went out on demonstrations in front of the Madhukhali union council building and formed a human chain in front of the sugar mill.
Champa Rani’s brother Arun Kumar Bhoumik filed a case with the Madhukhali police accusing Rony on Wednesday morning.
Rony, according to the case statement, has been harassing his niece, Hira Rani Biswas for about a year.
Swapan Biswas told New Age Rony had been harassing his daughter Hira for a year. Swapan said he along his wife complained about Rony to the influential people of the area.
Police subinspector Enamul Haq said the killing was a sequel to Champa Rani’s protest at the harassment of her daughter. The police are investigating the matter, he said.
In Chandpur, stalkers critically injured two brothers for their protest at the harassment of a girl, according to news agency Bdnews24.com.
Mafizul Islam Madhu, 45, and his brother Gazi Kamal, 32, were incurred in an attack at the Kachua market place on Tuesday.
Madhu is being treated in a hospital in Dhaka and Kamal, who needed 10 stitches in the head, has been admitted to a hospital in Comilla in fear of further attack. They also refused to identify the attackers.
Madhu said some students of the Chandpur Polytechnic Institute used to harass his niece, Mousumi Aktar, an SSC candidate, on her way to school.
Madhu and Kamal requested the students several times not to disturb her. The students then became angry and vandalised a photocopying shop owned by the brothers.
The group of students also attacked and injured the brothers when they resisted.
Mousumi’s father Gazi Rafiqul Islam was preparing to file a case.
The Kachua police officer-in-charge, Mohammad Harunur Rashid, said, ‘No steps could be taken in this connection as no case has been filed.’
