Five people were injured as stalkers attacked them in separate incidents in Naogaon and Bogra on Saturday night and Sunday morning for their protests at harassment of a woman and a schoolgirl.
In Naogaon, a stalker stabbed a man for his protest at the harassment of his wife in the Naogaon district headquarters on Saturday night. His son and one of their relatives were also beaten up and stabbed.
In Bogra, stalkers on Sunday attacked the father and a cousin of a student of girl student Gosaibari KO Girls’ High School at Dhunat.
The New Age correspondent in Rajshahi reported that three people were critically injured in Naogaon as stalkers attacked them for their protests at harassment.
The injured are Abdul
Hannan, 42, and his son Hasiur Rahman Joha, 14 and Akram Hossain, 25, uncle of the Abdu Hannan’s wife who was harassed. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The victim’s family said Mohammad Laku, 30, had been stalking wife of Abdul Hannan, a resident of Khash Naogaon for days.
Hannan said Laku had threatened the family several times for protesting at the harassment and they had recently moved out. He said they had returned to their house on October 26.
Laku used to stop the woman when she was going out of the house. He also harassed her by making calls to her mobile.
Hannan, Hasiur and the uncle of the woman protested at the matter and asked Laku to stop doing so.
Laku, along with his associates, then waylaid Hannan, Hasiur and Akram at Chawkdevpur Daktar Para about 9:30pm on Saturday night when they were on their way home.
Laku then beat them up, stabbed them and drove nails into their body.
Local residents later rescued them unconscious and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Physicians reported Hannan to be in a critical condition as he was goaded with an iron road and chopped.
A case was filled with the Naogaon police against Laku in this connection.
The correspondent in Bogra said stalkers had attacked the father and a cousin of the schoolgirl.
The injured Abdul Mandal, father of the girl, and Dulal Hossain, her cousin, were admitted to hospital.
The girl said Babu Mia, a resident of the area and student of Class X at Gosaibari High School, had harassed her for two months. She said Babu had threatened on Saturday to pick her up.
When Mandal was making an inquiry of the threat, a gang, which included two of Babu’s cousins Abdul Momin and Shafiqul, attacked them.
Mandal filed a case with the police on Sunday evening. The accused left the area after the incident.
Dhunat police inspector Shajahan Pasha said they were trying to arrest the accused.
A young man was, meanwhile, arrested on Sunday for harassing a student of Adamdighi Girls’ High School at Shialsan in the upazila in Bogra.
Rickshaw-van puller Alim was arrested when
he was harassing the girl
on her way to school.
Local people captured the man and handed him over to the police after beating him.
