Inspired by the paintings of noted Bangladeshi expatriate artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, three Chinese painters have created a number of hand embroidered silk needle painting. Under the title “Silk Story”, the exhibition opens today at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Shahabuddin Ahmed will inaugurate the exhibition as chief guest.
Needle painting is also known as thread painting. Painting with a needle and long and short stitch is a hand embroidery technique, generally creating realistic pictures.
About the exhibition, Mohammad Moniruzzaman, executive director of Gallery Chitrak, said, “The technique is completely different and new to us. The technique of needle painting takes months of practice to master. The medium is quite expensive and time consuming. About 15 works will be on display at the exhibition.”
The exhibition will continue till October 5.
