Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach Heath Streak backed paceman Taskin Ahmed to come clear after the testing of his bowling action in the biomechanics centre in Chennai.
Taskin, who was reported with the suspect action alongside left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny after Bangladesh’s opening match at ICC World Twenty20 qualifier against Netherlands, will visit the centre on Monday.
‘Obviously he is disappointed that this has happened but he and I are 100 per cent confident that he will be clear,’ Streak told reporters in Dharamsala on Saturday ahead of Bangladesh’s final qualifier against Oman.
‘I have looked at footage from when I had started till now and there is no change in his action. The coaching staff and few others have also looked into and we believe he is fine.
‘I am confident. I am not saying this just to support him I honestly believe he is fine and he is going to play an important part for us in the World Cup,’ said Streak.
Taskin was reported by Indian umpire Sundaram Ravi, Australian Rod Tucker and Zimbabwean match referee Andy Pycroft. Tucker and Pycroft were involved in Bangladesh’s homes series against India last year when Taskin played at least two matches.
Their action in the very first match of a global tournament therefore came as a surprise, though Streak refused to criticise the match officials.
‘I think it is simple. If you feel there is a problem it is something you have to deal with,’ he said.
‘In this situation it is frustrating and in the visuals he can see it himself that he is okay.
‘I believe he is now happy after seeing the visuals of that match and other visuals we had.
‘We don’t have access to everything but in our opinion he has got a perfect and legal action.
‘There is a process we have to go through it and give the test and hopefully it will put the dust to this,’ said Streak.
