The Bangladesh Gram Theater held a cultural boat ride to commemorate its 40th anniversary in Rajshahi on Saturday. The boat ride was called ‘Bangla Natyaer Naujatra’.
Theater President Nasiruddin Yousuf Bachchu opened the journey from the Alupatty top of the Padma River in Rajshahi at 11:00 am.
The convoy arrived an hour later at Ila Mitra Mancha, which is located next to the Boral River in the Charghat Upazila.
About 15 boats decorated with colored flags carried about 150 cultural activists and professionals on their journey.
The boats have been named after figures such as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Hasan Raja, Lalon, Rajanikanta Sen, Akshay Kumar Maitra and AHM Qamruzzaman.
Each of the boats also displayed a different folk culture including Gazir Gaan, Gambhira, Alkap Rangaros, Sang Ranga, Madarer Gaan and Manasa Pala. In Charghat, a procession passed through the city, followed by a discussion.
Panelists said the Gram Theater has been working on Bangladesh’s heritage and culture for more than four decades with the aim of consolidating the non-communal cultural consciousness of Bangaleans and moving into the future.
Following the discussion, Village Theatre presented Alkap Rangaras, Charghat Baral Theatre presented Madar Gaan, and a Manasamangal pala was arranged. Rajshahi’s Mathal also staged a gambhira. The boat trip came to an end with a return to Rajshahi city in the afternoon.
