Locals set bus on fire
A college student was crushed under the wheels of a recklessly driven bus at Bibirhat in the port city yesterday.
Witnesses said Jannatul Ferdous Rima, 18, slipped on the road while she was getting down from the bus as its driver did not stop it completely.
Rima, a first year student of Chittagong Nasirabad Women’s College, died on the spot around 3:00pm.
Enraged, locals set the bus on fire minutes after the incident.
Police arrested Md Naser, 40, the driver of the bus, and took him to Panchlaish Police Station.
Rima was the daughter of Monwar Hossain, an expatriate in Qatar, and Nur Nahar Begum. Her family lives in Bashar Market area.
Victim’s maternal uncle Tajul Islam Selim said they were waiting for the death certificate to file a case.
