Chittagong University students on Wednesday held demonstration on the campus and in the city, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the minibus driver who killed two students and injured another five in a road mishap on Tuesday.
To avert any untoward situation, the CU authorities suspended the university’s classes and examinations for Wednesday.
Ahmed Fazlul Mawla, first year student of accounting and information department, and Maruf, a ten-year-old boy of Nipaban School of CU, were killed and five others injured in an head on collision on Tuesday between a university-bound mini bus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in the campus rail crossing area.
The students staged demonstration on the campus and gave an ultimatum till Saturday for the arrest of the driver.
Wednesday morning, the students brought out a procession from the university railway station and paraded different roads.
Earlier on the day, activists of Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad stopped the university-bound shuttle train at Sholasahar railway station at around 8:15am.
The train service remained suspended between the campus and the city for about half an hour. Later the train service resumed at around 10:20pm.
Besides, local people also blocked a teacher’s bus at the university gate 1 at around 1:00pm, protesting at the deaths in the accident.
