The four-day SM Sultan festival, organised marking 88th birth anniversary of the master artist Sultan, ended on Saturday with a colourful traditional boat race on the Chitra River in Narail.
Seven hundred participants form different areas of the south-west region participated with 14 boats, of which 11 boats were rowed by male contestants and three were rowed by women, in competition organised by SM Sultan Foundation in association with Bangladesh Rowing Federation and mobile operator Banglalink .
Dipchad Sarker and his team from Hasanpur village under Dumuria upazila in Khulna secured first position in the competition. Fanindranath Boiddo and his team became second while Premkumar and his team became third in the competition.
The winners won TV set, DVD player and other gift items after winning the race.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Jalil was present at the boat race as chief guest.
Thousands of people including woman and children from Jessore, Khulna, Magura, Gopalganj, Faridpur and Narial enjoyed the race.
The four-day Sultan Festival featured mela (fair), art camp with participation of local and Indian artists, children art competition, boat race and display of other traditional art forms.
SM Sultan foundation, SM Sultan Shishu Charu O Karukala Foundation and the district administration have jointly organised the festival.
