The versatile singer Suman Chowdhury, who achieved success rendering Nazrul Sangeet and classical music, proved his skill as a Rabindra Sangeet artiste in a solo musical programme at the
Chhayanaut auditorium on Friday evening.
The audience enjoyed five evergreen Tagore songs presented by Chowdhury from his first Tagore album titled Mon Diyechhi Meley launched in the evening.
He also presented Manna Dey’s five popular songs.
It’s to be mentioned that Suman Chowdhury’s second album was a tribute to the late Manna Dey featuring the Indian singer’s popular songs. He also released two Nazrul music albums.
The solo show began with rendition of Tagore number Aaj jemon korey gaichhey akash. His soulful presentation of the raga based Tagore’s devotional number Jagoter anondo jogne entertained the houseful audience, who greeted the singer with a loud applause.
A romantic ambiance was created as Suman Chowdhury, with his melodious voice, rendered Prem sudha roshe, a popular Tagore’s romantic song.
The audience also enjoyed Suman Chowdhury’s soulful presentation of the recently demised singer Manna Dey’s popular numbers such as Kato durey ar, Abar hobey toh dekha, Bhalobasar rajprasadey and Jadi kagojey likho naam.
Explaining the reason behind releasing a Tagore album followed by Nazrul albums, Suman Chowdhury said, ‘I sing different genres of songs. I always wanted to release a Tagore music album as I’m a great admirer of Tagore songs.’
Suman Chowdhury’s album Mon Diyechhi Meley features 12 timeless Tagore songs. The singer himself has arranged the music of the album. ‘I have used acoustics of different instruments like sarod, sitar, violin, flute, esraj, guitar, keyboard, tabla and percussion. I believe the audience will love the songs of the album,’ Suman Chowdhury told New Age.
The album was produced by SS products.
