The Dhaka Premier League Cricket will lose much of its gloss as the national players will miss the super league starting in different venues of the country from today.
The national players are due to start their World Cup preparations from January 26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Abahani are leading the points table with 20 points from 11 matches and only lost to Kalabagan and is heading to be the champions, especially after humiliating Mohammedan in the first phase with a 10-wicket victory that boosted their confidence. They will miss the service of Muhamudullah and Imrul Kayes as their original captain Mashrafee bin Murtaza only played two games for them.
Their arch rival, star-studded defending champion Mohammedan Sporting Club could gather only 17 points after so many matches and will need a miracle in the super league if they want to be the champion. They will certainly miss the services of Sakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal but their ever reliable contributor Foysal Hossain will be there to bail them out .
Old DOHS will have the services of all the players as none of them has gone to the world cup squad. They won the third position—thanks to their Pakistani recruit who played superbly and is number three with 16 points.
Gazi Tank who made a stir in the premier league by defeating two big names—Mohammedan and Biman—consecutively will be depending on their youth but certainly miss the service of Shariar Nafees who made an identical 114 not out on both occasions along with Naeem Islam. Biman who flew in the super league on the shoulder of Mushfiqur Rahim who made 6 half centuries in the league will also be without Shafiul. Mohammad Ashraful of Cricket Coaching School also scored a lot of runs to take his side in the last six.
Meanwhile Kalabagan (12), Victoria (10) and Surjo Tarun (8) are saved from playing the relegation league but the latter will lose the service of three players as Abdur Razzak, Junaed Siddique and Sohrawardi Shuvo are included in the national team. Bangladesh Krira Shikha Prothisthan (4) Prime Dhaleshwar (3) and Orient Sporting Club (2) will fight in the relegation league.
