Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta, MP, on Friday urged the oppositions to join the all party government to maintain the progress of democracy, giving up the path of anarchy and violence. “The prime minister does not hold the supreme power. However, if the opposition wants to reduce the power of the prime minister, the government does not have any problem to discuss the issue with them,” he said at a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The discussion was organised by Nouka Samarthak Goshthi, a pro-Awami League organization, to protest BNP-Jamaat violence across the country. Speaking as the chief guest, Suranjit said the prime minister is not the only person to guide the cabinet. “The ministers independently perform their duties. The prime minister acts as a coordinator,” he said. Urging the oppositions to join the all party government, the former minister said the opposition should cooperate with the government to uphold the spirit of democracy. Suranjit Sengupta also criticised Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain for urging the prime minister to step down.
