Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday expressed deep concern over suspension of transmission of two private satellite television channels—Diganta TV and
Islamic TV—and attacks on journalists.
Condemning the incidents, Ershad in a statement said, “It’s against the democratic norms to stop the transmission of any media and kill the freedom of expression. I hope the government will reconsider the decision and allow the channels to resume transmission.”
He said legal action can be taken if these two channels commit anything wrong.
Transmission of satellite television channels Diganta TV and Islamic TV was stopped early Monday, minutes after law enforcers in a drive dispersed Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh activists from the city’s Shapla Chattar area. UNB
A team of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) conducted a raid on the Diganta office at about 4:25am and forced the authorities to stop the transmission of the channel instantly, the channel sources said.
