Top officials of PICTET, a Swiss private bank, have explored the investment potential in the country’s stock market. PICTET senior vice-president Daniel Faes and senior trader emerging markets Francisco Pozza on Sunday held separate meetings with officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and the Dhaka Stock Exchange in this regard.During the meeting with the BSEC officials, the capital market regulator provided an idea about the regulatory framework of the country’s capital market. BSEC chairman M Khairul Hossain and other commissioners were also present in the meeting.
‘We have provided a brief view about the rules and regulations of our capital market including corporate governance guideline, settlement guarantee, national clearing corporation and other rules related to the capital market,’ a BSEC senior officer told New Age.
‘We hope they are satisfied with the rules and regulations of the capital market to invest in our capital market as we are one of the frontier emerging markets and the bank wants to take the benefit as an early comer,’ he said.
‘The officials also expressed the bank’s interest to invest in our capital market for a long term which may be in different forms, not only in the secondary market, he said.
The PICTET officials also held another meeting with the DSE management to learn about the present situation of the county’s capital market, a DSE official told New Age.
‘During the visit the DSE management offered a presentation to the PICTET delegation on the recent movement of the capital market, including prospects in the country’s capital market as the share prices of the country are now so lucrative,’ he said.
But, the visit of the PICTET officials could be called as a preliminary one to make any investment decision, he said.
