Pinky Khatun, Fatiha Ummun Maisha and Marzia Akter won gold in taekwondo in the Bangladesh Games but they have gone almost unnoticed as the Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation did not even bother to inform the Games authorities about gold-deciding matches.
Pinky of Rajshahi DSA beat Sumaiya Imroz of BJMC in the final to win gold medal in the under-46kg category, while the bronze medal was shared by Nurunnahar of Chittagong and Jobaida Naznin of Bandarban.
In the under-49kg category, Maisha of BJMC defeated Jannatul Sultana Salma of Rajshahi to win gold while losing semi-finalists Syed Juma Reza of Comilla and Jannatul Mabia of Gazipur won bronze medals.
In the under-53kg category, Marzia of BJMC won the gold medal beating Taskina Jerin Alam of Rajshahi. The bronze medal of the event was shared by Sabrina Jahan Tanjila of Chittagong and Mousumi of Rajshahi.
In handball, BJMC and Bangladesh Ansar moved into the semi-finals after beating their respective rivals at the Syed Shaheed Nazrul Islam Handball Stadium. BJMC outplayed Rajshahi 25-5 while Ansar thrashed Kushtia 34-1 to ensure their final four berths from their respective groups.
Dhaka and Dinajpur also lifted hopes to book their places in the semi-finals by beating Rangpur 29-4 and Noagaon 10-9 respectively before playing their group last match against Rangamati and Panchagarh today.
In football, both the matches of the day ended in draws at the Kamalapur stadium. Moulvibazar drew 2-2 against Barisal. Helal Mia and Zayed Ahmed scored for Moulvibazar while Azad and Faisal Ahmed netted one goal each for Barisal.
BKSP and Manikganj played out a goalless draw at the same venue.
The semi-final line-ups of women’s singles in table tennis were completed with Ankhi, Sima, Nahima and Turbina advancing to the last four. Ankhi of Dhaka defeated Fariha of Shariatpur 4-0, Sima of Dhaka beat Trisha of Rajshahi 4-1, Nahima of Dhaka beat Tamanna of Shariatpur 4-0 while Turbina of Rangpur beat Mahi of Pabna 4-1 to emerge champions in their respective groups.
In the men’s team event, Bangladesh Ansar and Chittagong moved into the final beating Bagerhat and Biman Bangladesh respectively, while Ansar and Dhaka confirmed their final berths in the women’s team event by beating Rangpur and Narail respectively.
