A jam-packet audience enjoyed Rabindranath Tagore’s poems and songs performed at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of the Central Library on Friday evening, amid a moderate shower throughout the day.
Noted recitation troupe Sharabritta organised the programme titled Rabi Thakurer Ajor Kabita Abinashi Gaan taken from a verse of
the late poet Shamsur Rahman.Rabishankar Maitree recited 18 Tagore poems while Makbul Hossain rendered same number of Tagore songs.
Each poem was followed by a song having almost same theme or emotion at the programme, which gave the audience a different taste.
The show began with Maitree’s presentation of Tagore’s poem Dinosheshe, which glorifies the beauty of the motherland. It was followed by Makbul Hossain’s rendition of popular patriotic song by Tagore titled Sarthok jonom amar jonmechhi ei deshe.
The duo also presented poems such as Paye Cholar Path, Banshi, Pother Badhon, Borshar Diney and Prothom Shok respectively followed by songs like Amar ei poth chawatei anand, Har mana har porabo, Tomar khola hawa, Aj shraboner amontrone and Tumi ki keboli chhobi.
‘Hossain’s soft and melodious voice matched well Maitree’s soft and supple recitation’, observed a Dhaka University student Saif Sharif who enjoyed the show.
Another delighted Kamal Akter said, ‘The evening was really enjoyable.’
