Opener Tamim Iqbal has suffered a minor injury while taking a catch during Friday’s crucial match against Ireland, said a team official on Saturday.
Tamim took a stunning catch diving to his front to dismiss Ireland batsman Niall O’Brien for 38, a catch that turned the game to Bangladesh’s way.
Bangladesh, defending a small total of 205 runs, won the game by 27 runs and Tamim was awarded man-of-the-match trophy for his brisk 44 off 43 balls and the match-winning catch.
‘We sent him for a precautionary X-ray today (Saturday), but it revealed no fracture,’ said team manager Tanzeeb Ahsan Saad.
‘He has just damaged some soft tissues in his left hand and should be okay within two or three days,’ said Saad.
Tamim had undergone a surgery on his left hand last September which forced him to skip the home series against New Zealand in the following month.
Bangladesh beat New Zealand 4-0 in the series, which helped them overtake West Indies in the official one-day ranking.
Bangladesh will face West Indies in their third Group B match in Dhaka on March 4.
