Tamim dominates again

It was once again a ‘Tamim Iqbal show’ that dominated the beginning of the second round of the National Cricket League. The dashing left-hander raced to his third consecutive century and became the only batsman in the history of Bangladesh’s domestic cricket to score hundreds in three consecutive innings. Playing at the BKSP, Tamim’s 183 came of just 187 balls, as the Chittagong captain looked at ease against mediocre Sylhet bowling attack.
Naeem Islam scored a timely century at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium at Khulna against the home side. The Rangpur batsman who scored his second hundred of the tournament will definitely provide the national selectors with some food for thought.
The Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium at Rajshahi began its NCL campaign on a batting-spree as both the Rajshahi openers, Junaid Siddiqui and Mizanur Rahman scored centuries and helped the reigning champions take a sizeable lead against their opponents, Barisal.
On the contrary, the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, witnessed another low-scoring affair. The game between, Dhaka and Dhaka Metro witnessed 17 wickets fall on the first day.
CHITTAGONG v SYLHET
Tamim Iqbal continued on his merry way as he single-handedly lifted Chittagong to 367. The league’s first foreign player, Milinda Siriwardana from Sri Lanka, made his presence felt with a quick half century. The slow-left armer also sent back Sylhet’s opener Imtiaz Hossain later in the day. Enamul Haque Jr, once again proved his credentials as he ended the day with figures of 6 for 98. He also got the all important scalp of Tamim.
RANGPUR v KHULNA
Shakib Al Hasan, began his NCL tourney with two wickets at his home ground as he and his national colleague, Abdul Razzaq bowled the lion’s share of overs on the first day of the match. Naeem Islam, however, continued on with his new-found motivation to stay at the crease as he remained not out on 109 after the end of the first day. He stayed at the wicket for close to five hours and tackled the two best left arm spinners of Bangladesh with ease. The left-arm bowlers took five wickets yesterday.
RAJSHAHI v BARISAL
Rajshahi were boosted by a 267-run opening partnership between Junaid Siddiqui and Mizanur Rahman. With the national selectors still hunting for an opening partner for Tamim, Junaid’s century might just give him the edge in that battle
DHAKA v DHAKA METRO
Shahadat Hossain picked up a five-for as Dhaka booked Dhaka Metro for just 205 runs. Youngster Asif Ahmed was the only batsman who showed promise for Metro as his fluent 86 pivoted the team’s innings. Unfortunately for Dhaka, they couldn’t replicate their performance while batting as they lost 7 quick wickets. Elias Sunny of Dhaka Metro was the chief destroyer as he picked up three wickets in his first three overs.
