The St Lucia Zouks got the better of the Antigua Hawksbills by 17 runs courtesy the Duckworth-Lewis method in the Caribbean Premier League on
Friday as Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal once again failed to excel.
Tamim scored 20 runs from 19 deliveries in the rain-curtailed match, while his opening partner Andre Fletcher notched a breezy 53-ball 76. A cameo by skipper Darren Sammy (35 off 20 balls) at the end of the innings propelled St Lucia to 179-4.
In reply, Antigua made 76-3 in 10.4 overs when rain stopped play, 18 runs short of the revised target of 94.
Tamim managed to strike four boundaries and looked comfortable against West In
dian paceman Kemar Roach before Marlon Samuels got the better of the southpaw.
The left-hander, without getting to the pitch of the ball, executed a slice shot off Samuels only to offer a simple catch to Kieran Powell at point.
Even though a couple of wickets fell in between, Fletcher remained composed as he, along with Sammy, helped take St Lucia’s total past 150.
The pair added 59 runs for the fourth wicket through some enterprising shots, including three huge sixes by Sammy.
Chasing the revised target, Antigua were always behind the required run-rate as they eventually fell short by 17 runs.
Languishing at the bottom of the points table, St Lucia require a win from their final game against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel today to have any chance of making it into the semi-finals.
