Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal suffered a fracture in his ring finger on the left hand that ruled him out for three to four weeks, said officials on Sunday.
Tamim received the injury during a practice session on Saturday, said Debashish Chowdhury, the chief medical officer of Bangladesh Cricket Board.An X-ray report on Sunday confirmed the fracture, said Debasish.
‘Tamim [Iqbal] has fractured his ring finger during catching practice,’ Debashish told reporters at Mirpur on Sunday.
‘The good thing is that the fracture did not spread and is in one place.
‘We are hopeful for him to recover within two to three weeks,’ he said.
Tamim now faces a race to become fit ahead of three-match one-day international series against Afghanistan.
The BCB planned to host the series to give Bangladeshi players some useful match practice ahead of October’s home series against England.
According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan, the three ODIs will be held on September 25, 28 and 30.
Debashish hoped Tamim would recover in time to make him available for both BCL and Afghanistan series.
National team physio Bayzidul Islam however indicated that Tamim may need four weeks to recover completely.\
‘Such injuries take about three to four weeks to heal. We have time. He should be able to start batting in four weeks,’ a BCB statement quoted him as saying on Sunday.
