Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal’s blistering knock of unbeaten 93 gave his franchise Wayamba United a flying start in the Sri Lankan Premier League as they earned a comprehensive nine-wicket win against Uthura Rudras on Sunday.
The dashing left-hander, Tamim, clobbered seven fours and six sixes in his 61-ball innings at the Premadasa stadium that helped his side to reach 183-1 with four balls remaining after Uthura posted a huge 179-7 in their 20 overs.
Tamim, later adjudged man of the match, was accompanied by Pakistani Kamran Akmal, who also hammered 79 off 55 balls, and the duo added 176 runs for the first wicket as they easily surpassed the big total giving their opposition no chance.
‘The pitch played well, the ball was coming on to the bat and I enjoyed myself. We discussed that we will not look at the scoreboard, and we batted well to get there,’ said Tamim who pierced the field with perfection and finished the game in style with a six.
Earlier, Pakistani Imran Farhat (51) and Mahela Udawatte (28) gave
Uthura’s a good start picking up 50 in just five overs. Contributions from Chamara Kapugedara (38) and skipper Farveez Mahroof (28) took them to the big total.
