Tanvir Haider and Farhad Hossain stole the show with centuries on the opening day at the country’s franchise-based first-class tournament, the Bangladesh Cricket League on Tuesday.
Tanvir, unbeaten on 108, helped Walton Central Zone recover from 4-26 to post a respectable 303-5 at stumps against East Zone in Bogra. Tanvir, who came at number six, salvaged the innings with one-down Marshall Ayub who scored 76 off 143 balls and shared 135-run for the fifth wicket.
After Marshall’s departure, Sharifulla, 89 not out, aided Tanvir to forge an unbroken 142-run partnership in the sixth wicket.
Tanvir faced 256 balls and hit 16 fours while Sahrifullah struck 13 fours in his 101-ball innings.
Medium pacers Abul Hasan and Abu Jayed picked up 3-41 and 2-60 respectively for East Zone, who had seen their spinners going wicketless.
In the other match of the round, North Zone finished the day on 291-6 against South Zone at Rajshahi thanks to a 106-run knock from Farhad Hossain.
Farhad made a 66-run second wicket stand with Myshukur Rahman (30) and 70-run third wicket partnership with his skipper Naeem Islam to give his side some stability.
The 28-year old right-handed batsman struck 15 boundaries and a six in his 179-ball innings that lasted for 209 minutes.
Ariful Haque remained not out on 62 with Sanzamul Islam, who made 11 at stumps.
Sohag Gazi and Abdur Razzak picked up 2-95 and 2-118 respectively while Enamul Haque junior and Tawhidul Islam grabbed one wicket apiece for South Zone.
