Kalabagan Krira Chakra faced a remarkable collapse to lose against Brothers Union by nine runs in their Dhaka Premier League match on Wednesday at BKSP.
Chasing Brothers’ 262, Kalabagan were on 238-3 after the end of 45 overs before they lose their last seven wickets for just 15 runs to be dismissed for 253 in 49.2 overs.Left-arm spinner Nabil Samad, who grabbed three of those seven wickets, finished with 4-47 helping his side pull out a heist which made Kalabagan’s Zimbabwean batsman Hamilton Masakadza’s century went into vain.
Masakdza came into the wicket after Kalabagan openers Shadman Islam (30) and Jashimuddin made a 56-run opening stand and made a 122-run partnership with Tasammul Haque in the third wicket to put his team in a commendable position.
Tasammul got out for 45 but the 32-year old Zimbabwean went on to score his second century in the league and became the leading run scored with 419 runs till date before he was finally dismissed for 111 runs.
He struck nine boundaries and a six in his 105-ball innings before he was out as the sixth man on a situation when his team-mates were making a procession to get back in the pavilion though hara-kiri.
It all started in the first ball of the 46th over when Mehrab Hossain Jr got out for six before his skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza followed him with two in the first ball of the next over.
Masakadza was dismissed two balls later and Tanvir Haider (one) got out in the fifth ball of the next over to leave the panic-stricken side on 247-7.
Sharifullah (six) was dismissed in the last ball of the penultimate over, when the score was 253 and Abdur Razzak (four) and Dewan Sabbir (zero) got out in the first two balls of the last over, bowled by off-spinner Sadiqur Rahman to complete the mayhem.
Earlier in the day, Brothers skipper Tushar Imran made 77 and built a partnership of 126-run in the second wicket with Imrul Kayes, who scored 67, to give his side a solid base.
Although they could not really build up the expected score on that base but Milind Kumar (27), Nur Alam (23) and Sadiqur (22) played some cameos to put the score over 260 that proved defendable in the end.
Sabbir, Sharifullah, Razzak and Masakadza got two wickets apiece for Kalabagan.
With the win Brothers are on the seventh spot in the points table with eight points from seven matches and Kalabagan are on 10th with only four points from same number of matches.
