Teasing ended her school life year ago
Investigation into the killing of a schoolgirl’s parents at Gulshan reveals a year’s history of fear and torment.
Killer Rubel attempted to drag Iti from the house in front of her parents on Wednesday in order to forcefully marry her. As her father Sadequr Rahman tried to stop him, Rubel shot him in his head and then his wife as she rushed to her husband’s help.
Rubel had been teasing Iti on her way to school, which compelled her to stop attending classes for the last one year.
“I only used to appear in the exams as Rubel set his friends to tease me,” Iti told The Daily Star at her residence yesterday.
Rubel then started intruding her house. This unwelcome visit continued for the last six months.
“Rubel also propagated in the area that I was his wife,” said Iti.
Iti’s brother Shihab returned from Malaysia yesterday. He said, “I requested Rubel’s maternal uncle Monir over and over to stop Rubel from teasing my sister but it all went unheeded.”
Rubel did not dare to intrude her house until Shihab went to Malaysia.
Shihab said, “My father did not file any case against Rubel fearing the worst and now his fear has come true.”
Unable to hold her tears, Iti said when Rubel came to their house her father rushed to her room and asked her not to come out until she was told to.
Rubel passed SSC from Iti’s school Kalachandpur High School and College in 2001 and HSC from Mirpur Bangla College.
Locals said he used to keep bad company and would take drugs.
After Wednesday’s incident Rubel’s family and relatives went into hiding.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Uddin of Gulshan Police Station said Abul Hossain, a relative of the victim family, filed a case against Rubel and Mithun.
Police on Wednesday picked up Mithun’s mother from her house at Nadda for interrogation. Mithun is reportedly a local hooligan who accompanied Rubel during the incident.
Kamal Uddin added Rubel might have a relationship with Iti but she broke up with him when his involvement with crime and drug addiction came to light.
Major Mustak of Rab-1 who is investigating the killings said the murders took place, as the couple became a hurdle for Rubel.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) expressed its concern over the killing of Bangladesh Nursery Owners Association general secretary Sadequr Rahman and his wife.
Human activists of Mohila Parishad also formed a human chain in front of the victims’ residence demanding arrest of the killers.
