Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted that the mercury may rise one or two degrees Celsius in the next two days before dropping by month’s end.
According to the Met office bulletin, “Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind are likely at a few places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions with isolated hails.”
Many parts of the country, including Dhaka, may get rain due to the impact of the nor ‘westerly on April 26 and 27, said meteorologist Bazlur Rashid of the BMD, adding that the temperature will drop then.
According to the BMD, the country’s highest 34.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Sandip on Sunday while on Friday the highest was 38 degrees Celsius in Mongla and Jessore.
Rain and thundershower during the Eid holidays brought a sigh of relief as people had been sweltering in a heatwave for weeks.
Amid the severe heatwave, the capital on April 16 recorded its highest temperature in decades with the mercury soaring to 40.6 degrees Celsius.
The BMD put Dhaka’s temperature at 40.4 degrees Celsius on April 15, which was the highest in 58 years.
Ishwardi recorded the highest temperature in the country, 43 degrees Celsius, this year on April 17.
Temperature across the country fell by 2 to 7 degrees Celsius on April 23.
