Surer Dhara singers are in the final stage of their preparation for performance to celebrate the last day of the Bangla calendar known as Chaitra Sankranti and the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of another Bangla year,
through a series of programmes.
Each day, the singers and dancers are holding rehearsals at the Lalmatia Girls’ High School. Around a thousand singers from across the country will present different genres of songs on the Chaitra Sankranti celebrations programme at the Lalmatia Girls’ High School premises on Saturday evening.
On the following day the same number of artistes will perform at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center to welcome the Bangla New Year 1420.
Eminent Tagore singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, who is also the principal of the music school, will lead the choir in both the programmes.
‘Surer Dhara is celebrating Chaitrasankranti and Pahela Boishak for the past ten years. This year is significant to us as it will mark the institution’s 20th founding anniversary’, Bannya said.
The Chaitrasankranti celebrations will continue till the midnight, said the organisers. In the programme, different Tagore songs highlighting the festival and the coming season will be presented.
The Pahela Baishakh celebrations will start at 5:30am and it will continue till 9:00am, they said.
‘Besides chorus, invited solo artistes will present songs and dance highlighting the Pahela Baishakh celebrations,’ Bannya said.
The singers from outside Dhaka were selected from their participations in previous programmes of Surer Dhara, the organisers said.
And these participants are enthusiastically participating in the rehearsals despite the regular hartals. ‘I’m excited about the programme and now staying in Dhaka at my relative’s house for the rehearsal,’ Rini from Manikgonj, said.
Another participant, Ullash from Gazipur, said, ‘I hope the festival will wash away all the evils and it bring new spirit to our nation’.
