Detective Branch of police arrested three leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam from Mirpur area on charges of unleashing violence on May 5 at Shapla Chattar.
They are Emran Majari, Khatib of the Lalbagh Shahi Mosque, Mizanur Rahman, vice-principal of Jamia Arabia Khademul Islami Madrasa and Abul Bashar, principal of Mirpur Jamiul Ulum Madrasa. Police said all of the arrestees are leaders of the Chittagong-based organisation which is believed to be backed by Jamaat-e-Islami.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said,” The three are accused in two cases filed over the mayhem in Motijheel during the May 5 rally.” “Legal action is being taken against them,” he added.
