The first semi-final of the ICC World Twenty20, 2014 between Sri Lanka and the West Indies, scheduled for today at Mirpur, is likely to be hit by rain and thunderstorm, according to BBC weather forecast. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department also forecasted rain and thunderstorm accompanied by blustery winds is expected to occur over the Dhaka division later on in the evening.
As per the tournament playing conditions and Law 21, if a match is a no-result or abandoned due to inclement weather, then the team which finished first in its second-round group shall progress to the final.
Sri Lanka finished top of Group 1 while the West Indies ended their Group 2 campaign in second position behind India. It means Sri Lanka will progress to the final in case rain washes out the match.
Rain has so far played foul in one Super 10 game between England and New Zealand in Chittagong with the Kiwis winning the tie according to the Duckworth/Lewis method.
