Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Wednesday urged the government to start the legal process immediately to ensure a new boss’ appointment at the Anti-Corruption Commission before completion of the incumbent chairman’s tenure. TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzman made the appeal in a statement issued on Wednesday as the tenure of ACC chairman Ghulam Rahman will end on June 23.
“In line with the ACC law, necessary professional efficiency, experience, neutrality and acceptance should be given priority in appointing the chief of the anti-corruption watchdog,” he said.
The TIB official also stressed on the need to take decision in appointing the scrutiny committee and the ACC chairman by keeping above any political influence.
He said, killing time unnecessarily in this regard might create an impasse which would be very risky for the commission.
He also urged the government to take immediate steps to send a list of two acceptable persons to the President through scrutiny committee in line with section-7 of the ACC law.
He also demanded making the incumbent commission chairman’s overall activities public.
