Pakistan coach Waqar Younis said that he was surprised to see Bangladesh playing defensive cricket in the series deciding second Test that ended at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. Pakistan defeated Tigers by 328 runs to clinch the series that helped tourists regain some composure at the end of month-long tour where they were defeated in the one-day international and Twenty20 series earlier.
Bangladesh made a superb fightback in the opening Test match but somehow lost their way in the second Test when both their team selection and decision after winning the toss were questionable.
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim left everyone surprised by opting to field first and that raised even more eyes as he did it without enough ammunition in his artillery.
‘I just have this feeling in the start of the Test match that they started on a back foot,’ Waqar told reporters on Saturday.
‘They don’t really come hard. They don’t really look to win the Test match. They were probably thinking to draw the test match, that’s why I guess they were left behind,’ said Waqar.
The pace bowling great added that experience made the difference between the two teams and also argued that Bangladesh lack proper resources in their bowling department.
‘They fought really hard but yes off course we were more experienced at the end of the day in this Test match. We exposed our sources better.
‘I guess their bowling sources were not as good as probably ours,’ he said. ‘They will get better with the time but I think in Test match cricket they need more time,’ he added.
