With the series in the back, Bangladesh are planning for some experiment during today’s fourth one-day international against Zimbabwe at Mirpur.
Keeping an eye on the upcoming ICC World Cup, the Tigers may hand leg-spinner Jubair Hossain and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam an ODI debut while pace bowler Abul Hasan also can make a comeback.
Selectors have already omitted Shafiul Islam and Arafat Sunny from the squad and Rubel Hossain could join them to make the way for the trio in Tigers’ line-up.
While the management looking to seize the opportunity to test the candidates for the undecided World Cup spots, players remained aware of the fact that it is time for them to perform.
Leggie Jubair was excited about his prospect of making ODI debut and knowing that the format is very different from Tests, where he excelled in the recent series, he said he is well prepared for the challenge.
‘I know both formats are different and there is less chance of going unpunished with odd balls,’ Jubair told New Age. ‘I was considered in Tests as a wicket taking bowler and was given the freedom of going all-out with all my varieties.
‘Here along with taking wickets I need to keep an eye on the run rate and so need to be more precise before pitching every delivery,’ said Jubair, adding ‘As the World Cup is coming, a near margin of error need to be even lesser.
Abul was relived to be back after his hip injury and looked motivated to get into the World Cup-bound plane.
‘My main aim is the World Cup,’ said Abul. ‘If I play, definitely I would like to make a mark against Zimbabwe,’ he said.
Though Bangladesh did not disclose their squad officially, spin bowling coach Ruwan Kalpage took little time to admit that the
focus is now on the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after the Tigers successfully wrapped up the series.
‘We will be playing a lot of ODI’s in the upcoming days, so naturally we can try some other combinations for the next match,’ said Kalpage.
