Bangladesh women’s cricket team registered their maiden one-day international victory as they beat their counterpart Asia Cup champions India by 40 runs in D/L method in the first ODI of the three-match one-day international series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
This was also Bangladesh’s first ODI win in the format against their vaunted neighbours, having lost all five previous encounters.
Batting first, the hosts made 152 in 43 overs with captain Nigar Sultana Joty making highest 39 off 64 balls while Fargana Hoque made 27.
Amanjot Kaur was the peak of the bowlers for India with 4-31.
In reply to a modest target, the visitors were in tatters from the very start of the match as they were reduced to 61-5 in 16.6 overs with some fiery bowling from Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter.
Eventually India were bowled out for 113 in 35.5 overs with Deepti Sharma top scoring with 20.
Marufa finished with 4-29 while Rabeya Khan picked up 3-30 among the Bangladesh bowlers.
