The anti-Corruption Commission has detected misappropriation of Tk 52.55 crore by officials and employees of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited revenue offices.
The money was embezzled by issuing fake bills and vouchers, the ACC said on Monday.
The commission’s director general Hanif Iqbal said at a news-briefing that it would sue the officials and employees involved in the misappropriation.
Steps are also under way for divisional actions against them, Hanif added. He also said the commission would ask for their wealth statements. He, however, refused to name the persons concerned.
According to ACC official, the BTCL collects revenue through two offices. Between 2000-2001 and 2007-2008, Tk 16.38 crore was misappropriated by revenue office-1.
In revenue office-2, Tk 36.17 crore was embezzled in the company fund, he added.
He also said that the commission had approved four charge sheets to be pressed against former social welfare officer (sacked) Motiar Rahman of Keshabpur in Jessore, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited distribution assistant of Kushtia, Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, packer-cum-mail carrier (sacked) of Daulatpur upazila post office, Atiar Rahman, and postal operator (sacked) of Chuadanga central post office, Tofazzal Hossain, on various corruption charges.
