The Bangladesh Football Federation is yet to find a sponsor for the seventh edition of the domestic football league, which is scheduled to get underway from December 27.
Grameenphone, who sponsored the last two seasons of the top flight, has not renewed their contract due to the current political situation that has placed the BFF in a conundrum.
Football’s governing body is now trying to lure three corporate houses – Square Group, Walton and Runner Group – to sponsor the upcoming football league.
Proposals have been submitted to the three corporate houses with Runner Group already declining the offer while Walton’s bid falls below the BFF’s expectation. The BFF is expecting at least Tk 1.5 crore for the right of the title sponsor.
‘We are hopeful that we will ensure the title and co-sponsors before the start of the league,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag on Saturday. ‘We have already submitted proposal letters.’
The season’s curtain-raiser, the Federation Cup, was chiefly sponsored by Walton with the electronics and goods manufacturing company providing Tk 20 lakh as title sponsors.
Besides Walton, Amber Group, Pragati Insurance and DBL Group also provided financial assistance as co-sponsors in order to set up the Federation Cup.
