A trader was shot dead at his shop in the city’s Jatrabari last night.
Deceased Pronab Mondol, 32, used to run a signboard and banner shop, “Sign Maker” behind the Elish Paribahan counter in the area.
Witnesses said a gang of three armed men came at the shop on a motorbike around 10:00pm. They shot Pronab in the head in front of his employees and left the scene firing bullets in the air.
Pronab died on the spot.
In another incident in the city’s Kadamtoli, criminals damaged the eyes of a timber merchant with knife last night.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Jonny, 25, of Jurain. The criminals also snatched his cell phone and cash during the attack.
Victim’s relatives said someone called Jonny over the cellphone around 7:00pm and asked him to come near Jurain Commissioner Road. When he got there three men swooped on him with knives.
Officer-in-Charge Kazi Aiyubur Rahman of Kadamtoli Police Station suspects that the incident might be a sequel to previous enmity.
