Businessmen and the commerce ministry on Monday set the maximum retail and wholesale prices of red lentil, chickpea and dates for Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims.
At a meeting the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the commerce ministry set the retail prices of red lentil imported from Canada at Tk 75-Tk 85 a kg, chickpea imported from Australia at Tk 62 a kg and dates imported from Iraq at Tk 75-Tk 85 a kg.
In a news release the FBCCI said the wholesale prices of red lentil, chickpea and dates had been set at Tk 72-Tk 74 a kg, Tk 52-Tk 54 a kg and Tk 72-Tk 75 a kg respectively.
Additional commerce secretary ATM Mortuza Reza Chowdhury, FBCCI vice-president Md Helal Uddin Ahmed and representatives of several business groups took part in the meeting.
Earlier, at a meeting on May 30 the FBCCI and the commerce ministry had set the mill gate, wholesale and retail prices of sugar at Tk 41.50 a kg, Tk 42.50 a kg and Tk 45.50 a kg respectively.
The price of unpacked soyabean oil was set at Tk 101 a litre at mill gate, Tk 102 a litre on wholesale market and Tk 105-Tk 108 a litre on the retail market while the price of bottled soyabean was set at Tk 127 a litre during Ramadan.
The meeting had set that the price of bottled soyabean oil (five litres) would be decreased by Tk 25 from the existing price but it did not mention the actual price.
The meeting had also set the price of palm oil at Tk 69 a litre at mill gate, Tk 70 a litre at wholesale and Tk 73-Tk 75 a litre on the retail market.
