Training on forestry research begins

The inaugural function of a 15-day training course titled ‘Forestry Research and Development in Bangladesh’ was held at Bangladesh Forest Research Institute in Dhaka on Thursday.
Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, inaugurated the training course as the chief guest.
BFRI director Rafiqul Haider presided over the function which was addressed by Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, additional secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; US Forest Service Compass Programme Bangladesh Project Lead Abu Mostafa Kamal Uddin; Muhammad N Khan, director of the Office of Economic Growth, USAID, and Bipul Krishna Das, forest conservator of Chittagong region.
Environment secretary Farhina Ahmed said that research has been given priority in different plans including the government’s perspective plan 2021-2041, SDG 2030, Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 2030, Delta Plan 2100 and the 8th Five-Year Plan.
Special guest USAID’s Muhammad N Khan said such programs would continue in the future.
US Forest Service Compass programme project lead Kamal Uddin said, ‘US Forest Service mainly provides assistance in research and training on forest and forest resources. Cooperation with BFRI will continue in sustainable forest research.
The training course organised for the newly-recruited researchers was coordinated by BFRI’s senior research officer Md Anisur Rahman, said a press release.
