The Dhaka University authorities on Sunday began a tree plantation campaign on the campus.
Arboriculture office of the university and DU Tree Plantation and Beautification Committee jointly organised the campaign. The university vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, inaugurated the campaign at a function at the Mall Chattar on the campus. Besides planting tree, he underscored the need for taking care of the plants.
He urged all to launch a social movement for tree plantation creating public awareness.
Pro-VCs Shahid Akhtar Hossain (administration) and Nasreen Ahmad (academics) also spoke at the function.
Some five hundred saplings of fruit bearing, medicinal and forestry trees would be planted as a part of the tree plantation campaign on the campaign this season.
