A truck knocked down and killed a couple on a motorcycle at Talonda crossing under Tanore upazila in Rajshahi on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were Ujjal Chndra Das, 35, and his wife Iti Rani, 30, residents of Gollapara of the upazila.
Witnesses said a Rajshahi-bound truck hit the motorcycle from behind and ran them over as they fell on the ground near Talonda crossing at about 4:30am.
Uzzal’s head was crushed under the wheels of the truck while Iti was rushed to the upazila health complex where she succumbed to her injuries in the evening.
But their 3-month old baby survived the tragedy and she was undergoing treatment in Tanore upazila health complex.
Tanore police said that the truck driver, Siddikur Rahman, was arrested after being caught by the pedestrians.
The bodies were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. A case was filled in this connection, police said.
