BCB bans the ex-captain provisionally from cricket
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday provisionally suspended former national captain Roquibul Hasan from all cricketing activities following his recent verbal tirade against officials.
BCB umpires committee took the decision in an emergency meeting where it was decided that Roquibul will be served with a show-cause notice to explain his behviour.The former national captain was seen making some derogatory remarks against BCB officials in a television report that followed his controversial move during the toss of a Bangladesh League match.
Roquibul, who was the match referee of that Dhaka Dynamites versus Barisal Bulls match, lifted the coin during toss before participating captains getting chance to have a proper look on it.
As the matter was reported in a television channel, Roquibul reacted sharply prompting the channel to conduct a sting operation on him. The private channel aired the footage of their sting recently, where Roquibul was seen claiming a match referee as the ‘God’ of a match. He also claimed that a match referee holds the authority to throw out even the prime minister from the ground.
He was also seen heavily criticising two Barisal Bulls officials, who raised allegations about his behaviour during the toss. While speaking to the reporter of the channel, Roquibul, who was apparently unaware of the fact that the camera had been recording his speech, also criticised BCB president Nazmul Hasan and former ICC chief AHM Mustafa Kamal.
‘He [Roquibul Hasan] will remain suspended until he can come up with a satisfactory answer to his comments,’ said Sailab Hossain, the member secretary of BCB umpires committee, under whose jurisdiction Roquibul works.
BCB president Nazmul also indicated that they are not taking the issue lightly.
‘I just heard the line where he mentioned about me,’ said Nazmul.
‘The BCB disciplinary committee will take over the case and conduct a massive investigation before preparing the report for the board meeting where his future will be decided,’ said Nazmul.
